Canoe Sailing Trip   11-28-01
This is our trip in Altyerre, our 16 foot sailing canoe.  We spent two days, one night on Shackleford Banks, a barrier island a couple of miles from the mainland on the coast of North Carolina.  The first day was great, temp in the 70's, south wind 10 - 15 kts.  Evening and night were cool with light winds.  Startled awake in the middle of the night to the sound of wild ponies right next to the tent.  Nothing will wake you up faster than the sound of heavy footsteps and snorting sounds a few feet away from you.  Next morning was beautiful except for no wind.  On our return trip we paddled for hours against falling tide to cross the sound and just 30 minutes short of landfall it started raining.  Did see dolphins just before rain though.  Except for soggy ending the trip was wonderful.  Altyerre sailed great doing 4 kts in first days run according to our GPS.  These pictures are in chronological order.
